Sen. Collins backs SAVE Act but refuses to change filibuster rules to pass it

SAVE Actfilibustervoting rightsvoter ID
Sen. Susan Collins announced support for the House-passed version of the SAVE America Act, saying voter ID is ‘a simple reform that will improve the security of our federal elections.’ However, she said she ‘oppose[s] eliminating the legislative filibuster,’ calling it ‘an important protection for the rights of the minority party.’ She warned that removing the filibuster would allow a future Democratic majority to pass ‘D.C. statehood, open borders, or packing the Supreme Court’ with a simple majority. Collins had opposed a prior version that would have required proof of citizenship at every election.
