Lyft offers discounted rides to trans Kansans after state voids their driver's licenses

After Kansas invalidated the driver's licenses of roughly 1,700 transgender residents with no grace period under SB 244, Lyft posted on social media offering 50% off rides (up to $10) using code TRANSJOY, valid through March 9. A spokesperson said the company's mission is 'to serve and connect... everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from.' The gesture drew praise from LGBTQ+ advocates, though Lyft did not address what support it would offer transgender drivers in Kansas who are also affected by the law.

Why this is Courage

This is a symbolic gesture. A $10 discount won't solve the crisis facing trans Kansans who suddenly cannot legally drive to work, medical appointments, or anywhere else. But in a moment when most corporations are retreating from LGBTQ+ support, Lyft publicly aligned itself with an embattled community.
